Description

11-Keto-beta-boswellic acid is a pentacyclic triterpenoid compound that binds to intracellular targets, including ion channels and protein kinases. 11-Keto-beta-boswellic acid has been shown to inhibit the growth of myeloma cells and HLA-A2+ human leukemia cells in vitro. The mechanism may be due to the inhibition of calcium flux into the cells, which leads to significant cytotoxicity. 11-Keto-beta-boswellic acid also inhibits the production of inflammatory cytokines by inhibiting interleukin 1β (IL1β) release from activated macrophages. Additionally, it has been shown to have an effect on autoimmune diseases by inhibiting IL1β release from macrophages.
