Kassinin is a substance that is a tachykinin, which is classified as an antigen binding molecule. It binds to the neurokinin-1 receptor and inhibits the production of Substance P, which is a peptide hormone. Kassinin has been shown to have a positive effect in animal models for carcinoid syndrome and congestive heart failure. The pharmacokinetic properties of this drug have been studied in rats and humans with good results. Kassinin has also been shown to inhibit the activity of polymorphonuclear leucocytes (PMNL) by acting on the alpha-adrenergic receptors on these cells, leading to a decrease in PMNL chemotaxis. Kassinin has been found to be effective when used as an experimental treatment for detrusor muscle dysfunction in rats.
