Lithium hexafluorophosphate is a compound that contains lithium, fluorine, and phosphorus. It is used as an electrolyte in electrochemical processes to reduce the concentration of hydrogen fluoride in the reaction solution. The use of lithium hexafluorophosphate can be seen as an analytical method for detecting hydrogen fluoride and carbon dioxide in water vapor. Lithium hexafluorophosphate has synergic effects with phosphorus pentoxide when used as a matrix for plasma mass spectrometry. The optimum concentration of lithium hexafluorophosphate is between 0.1 M and 1 M.
