Loxoprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that belongs to the class of drugs called pyrazoles. It is used in the treatment of inflammation and pain caused by arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, menstrual pain, and dental pain. Loxoprofen binds to cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, thereby inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis. The COX enzymes are necessary for the production of prostaglandins that lead to inflammation and pain. Loxoprofen also inhibits bacterial translocation by binding to bacterial lipopolysaccharides on the cell surface and preventing their interaction with immune cells. Loxoprofen has been shown to inhibit colony stimulating factor (CSF) activity in vitro assays by disrupting CSF-1 binding to its receptor erythropoietin receptor or CD11b/CD18 integrin receptors on monocytes or neutrophils.
