Lithium perchlorate trihydrate is a white, crystalline solid that is used as an analytical reagent for the determination of nitrogen. The FT-IR spectroscopy showed that lithium perchlorate trihydrate has a polymeric matrix, which may be due to hydrogen bonding between the carbonyl oxygens and nitrogen atoms. The specific antibody binds to the protein in order to detect the presence of lithium perchlorate trihydrate. Lithium perchlorate trihydrate also has transport properties and can dissolve in n-dimethyl formamide, while being insoluble in hydrochloric acid or zirconium oxide. Lithium perchlorate trihydrate can be synthesized by adding hydrochloric acid to a solution containing tryptophan and n-dimethyl formamide.
