Glycyl-L-leucine is a bacterial amino acid that is found in the intestine. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by inhibiting transport through membranes and protein synthesis. Glycyl-L-leucine has also been shown to be active against nikkomycin, an antibiotic used for the treatment of Gram-positive bacteria. This compound is incorporated into proteins with α-amino acids at the N terminus and β-amino acids at the C terminus, which are essential for peptidase activity. Glycyl-L-leucine can also be found in stereoisomers, which differ only in the orientation of their atoms around a double bond.
