Description

3-Bromo-6,7-dihydro-5H-pyrrolo[3,4-b]pyridine is a prodrug that is activated by the enzyme dihydropteridinase to produce the active form of 3,4-dihydropyridine. It has been shown to have an affinity for the ovaries and tissues of rats and mice. This drug has been shown to be effective in treating ovary syndrome, which may be due to its ability to reduce bleeding or decrease tumor cell growth. 3-Bromo-6,7-dihydro-5H-pyrrolo[3,4-b]pyridine is also used as a contraceptive and has been shown to inhibit ovulation in women. The drug is converted into active metabolites that bind to estrogen receptors and cause progesterone receptor downregulation. This process prevents pregnancy by preventing the release of eggs from the ovaries.
