6-Methyl-2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde is a chemical compound that belongs to the class of heterocyclic compounds. It has been shown to possess significant antiproliferative activity and inhibitory effects on cell proliferation in vitro, specifically in k562 cells. 6-Methyl-2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde has also been shown to have cytotoxic effects against lymphocytic leukemia cells and breast cancer cells. The structure of this molecule has been determined by X-ray crystallography and NMR spectroscopy. It has a hydroxyl group attached to a chelate ring with chloride ions at 4 and 5 positions. 6-Methyl-2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde also possesses hydrogen bonding interactions with water molecules, which are important for its three dimensional structure and function.
