Moracizine HCl is a structural heart disease agent that belongs to the class of antiarrhythmics. It is used in the treatment of arrhythmias, particularly those caused by ischemia and reperfusion. Moracizine HCl inhibits the enzyme activity of Na+/K+ ATPase, which affects the energy metabolism of cardiac cells and leads to an increase in intracellular sodium ion concentration. This leads to a decrease in intracellular calcium ion concentration, which decreases the rate at which contractile proteins are activated and results in cardiac effects such as decreased contractility and increased refractoriness. Moracizine HCl has shown an effect on ventricular arrhythmias, with a drug interaction profile that includes risk for myocardial infarction due to its effect on potassium-sparing diuretics.
