Description

1-(2-Methoxyphenyl)piperazine hydrochloride is a drug that belongs to the class of sulfonamides. It is used in the treatment of bacterial infections, especially those caused by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The use of 1-(2-Methoxyphenyl)piperazine hydrochloride has been shown to be effective in reducing the symptoms of depression and anxiety and may be useful in the treatment of Parkinson's disease. The drug binds to 5-HT7 receptors, which are expressed on serotonergic neurons, leading to increased levels of serotonin and dopamine. This effect on serotonin receptors may lead to an increase in appetite and weight gain. 1-(2-Methoxyphenyl)piperazine hydrochloride also blocks the multidrug efflux pump, which is responsible for pumping out drugs from cells.
