2-Methylpyridine is a compound that has been investigated for its potential use as an anticancer drug. It has been shown to inhibit hyperproliferation of carcinoma cell lines, and it also displays antimetastatic effects. 2-Methylpyridine binds to the toll-like receptor pathway and inhibits the production of proinflammatory cytokines such as picolinic acid. 2-Methylpyridine is also able to inhibit x-ray crystal structures, which may be due to its ability to interact with hydrogen fluoride. The reaction mechanism of 2-methylpyridine is still not well understood, but it is thought to involve picolinic acid and the hydrophobic effect.
