Mavacoxib is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that inhibits the synthesis of prostaglandins. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of pain, inflammation, and fever. Mavacoxib has been studied for its potential use as an anticancer agent. In vitro studies have demonstrated that mavacoxib inhibits the growth of cancer cells and induces apoptosis at concentrations below those required for inhibition of cyclooxygenase. The mechanism of action is not fully understood but may involve inhibition of DNA synthesis and cell cycle progression. Mavacoxib has shown antimicrobial resistance in some bacterial strains due to its inability to bind to the active site on bacterial enzymes.
