Description :
4'-Methyl-2,2,2-trifluoroacetophenone is a chiral catalyst that can be used to oxidize alcohols to their corresponding aldehydes and ketones. This compound is typically used in the synthesis of biomolecules. The yield of this reaction is very high when using a high concentration of 4'-methyl-2,2,2-trifluoroacetophenone. This reaction has been shown to be stereoselective. The oxidation of alcohols with 4'-methyl-2,2,2-trifluoroacetophenone is carried out by nucleophilic attack on the carbonyl carbon atom and the formation of an unstable intermediate that undergoes rapid elimination to form the corresponding carbonyl compound.
