6-Methyl-4,5-dihydropyridazin-3(2H)-one is an antimycobacterial agent that inhibits the production of inflammatory cytokines by inhibiting the activity of phospholipase A2. It has been shown to be active against TB in vitro. The antimycobacterial effects are due to the inhibition of phospholipase A2 and the subsequent decrease in levels of arachidonic acid metabolites, which are required for cell membrane biosynthesis. 6-Methyl-4,5-dihydropyridazin-3(2H)-one also prevents cell division by interfering with DNA synthesis and protein synthesis. The molecule is a potentiodynamic polarization compound that is soluble in water and acidic. It has been shown to have potent antimycobacterial activity against a variety of mycobacteria including Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Mycobacterium avium complex.
