1-(Methylamino)acetone hydrochloride (1MA) is a nitrosamine and a metabolite of dimethylnitrosamine, which has been shown to have carcinogenic and mutagenic effects in hamsters. 1MA is metabolized through the cytochrome P450 enzyme system, which is responsible for drug metabolism in the liver. 1MA binds with high affinity to microsomal protein and can cause death in animals treated with this agent. This nitrosamine has been studied for its potential use as a treatment for pancreatic cancer, but its efficacy has not yet been determined.
