4-(4-Methoxyphenyl)piperidine is a drug that acts as an allosteric modulator of metabotropic glutamate receptors. 4-(4-Methoxyphenyl)piperidine has been shown to increase the uptake of radiolabeled amino acids into rat brain tissue in vivo, suggesting that it may act as a cerebral metabolic enhancer. This agent has also been used as a radiotracer for positron emission tomography (PET) studies to measure the binding potential of metabotropic glutamate receptors in the cerebral cortex of rats.
