Methyl 3-methoxy-2-naphthoate is a stereoselective anti-tuberculosis drug. It has been shown to be effective against tuberculosis in cell culture and animal models. Methyl 3-methoxy-2-naphthoate is a stepwise synthesis of two asymmetric building blocks, namely naphthalene and methyl 3-methoxyacrylate. This drug inhibits the production of ATP, which causes the death of mycobacterium cells. The fluorescence properties of this compound have been used for its detection and determination by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
