Methyl (4-oxo-3,4-dihydrophthalazin-1-yl)acetate is an antimicrobial agent that is a derivative of phthalic anhydride. It has been shown to have antimicrobial activity against bacteria and fungi. Methyl (4-oxo-3,4-dihydrophthalazin-1-yl)acetate most likely exerts its antimicrobial activity by disrupting the cell wall synthesis in bacteria, as well as by inhibiting the synthesis of DNA and RNA.
