Methyl 2-[(2,3-dimethylphenyl)amino]benzoate is a vasodilator that inhibits the enzyme phosphodiesterase. It has been shown to be a competitive inhibitor of the enzyme in simulations of the chromatographic process. Methyl 2-[(2,3-dimethylphenyl)amino]benzoate has been found to inhibit the activity of molecules that bind metal surfaces and may have therapeutic potential for prevention of infections by bacteria. The mechanism of action is not well understood but may involve an interaction with specific amino acid residues on the protein surface or a change in morphology. This drug also interacts with analytical methods used to measure organic compounds and is acidic in nature.
Methyl 2-[(2,3-dimethylphenyl)amino]benzoate can be synthesized from hydrazone and methyl 2-(methylthio)benzoate through a series of reactions including hydrolysis, oxidation, reduction
