Description

2-{[(4-Methylphenyl)sulfonyl]amino}benzoic acid is the chloride salt of a sulfonamide that is a fluorescent compound. It has been used as a luminophore in the study of c1-6 alkyl phosphonium salts, and has also been used to investigate supramolecular interactions with chlorides. In vitro experiments have shown that 2-{[(4-methylphenyl)sulfonyl]amino}benzoic acid inhibits platelet activation and aggregation, which may be due to its ability to inhibit phosphodiesterase activity and interfere with the enzymatic degradation of adenosine diphosphate. 2-{[(4-Methylphenyl)sulfonyl]amino}benzoic acid has also been shown to act as an antiplatelet agent in vivo.
