5-Methylcyclohex-2-en-1-one, a chiral compound, is used in organic synthesis as an enol ether. It can be obtained by the reaction of methyl cinnamate with wittig reagent or perfluorobutyrate. 5-Methylcyclohex-2-en-1-one has been shown to be an excellent starting material for the synthesis of several tetracyclic compounds.
