2-Methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline is a molecule that is synthesized in the body. It is an endogenous substrate for the synthesis of dopamine and norepinephrine. 2-Methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline has been shown to inhibit the activity of adenylate cyclase and catecholamine hydroxylase in rat striatal tissue. This agent also inhibits the electron microscopic synthesis of mitochondria in Caco-2 cells. 2-Methyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline has also been used to produce monoclonal antibodies against enteritidis with some success.
