- Uridine, 5-methoxy-4-thio-
5-Methoxy-4-thiouridine is a polymerization inhibitor of polynucleotides. It has been shown to be an inducer of polynucleotide phosphorylase, which is involved in the synthesis of DNA and RNA. 5-Methoxy-4-thiouridine also has antiviral activity by inhibiting interferon production. This drug can also inhibit protein synthesis by preventing phosphorylation of enzymes such as phosphorylase and glycogen synthase kinase 3β. The molecular weight of this compound is about 368 daltons, and it has a molecular formula of C5H6N5S2.
