- 4-Methoxychinolin
- Quinoline, 4-Methoxy-
4-Methoxyquinoline is a synthetic quinoline derivative that has been studied for its ability to inhibit cancer cell growth. It binds to DNA and prevents the synthesis of RNA, leading to the inhibition of protein synthesis and cell death. 4-Methoxyquinoline has been shown to have a dose-dependent response in experiments with cancer cells in culture, with an IC50 (concentration required for 50% inhibition) of 2 μM. This drug is not active against bacteria or fungi. The chloride ion is thought to be necessary for the binding affinity of 4-methoxyquinoline to DNA. The sodium carbonate ion may also play an important role in the binding process by forming a complex with 4-methoxyquinoline and chloride ions, which stabilizes the interaction between these ions and DNA.
