Methyl 5-bromo-2-chloronicotinate is an antiviral drug that inhibits the HIV integrase enzyme. This drug binds to the integrase pharmacophore, which consists of 8-hydroxyquinoline and a tetracyclic system, and prevents the binding of the HIV virus to host cells. Methyl 5-bromo-2-chloronicotinate is a member of a group of compounds called transfer inhibitors that are used to inhibit viral DNA transfer. It has been shown to be effective against HIV infection in laboratory animals.
