4-Methyl-2-phenylpyridine is a photophysical phosphine ligand that can be used in conjunction with naphthalene derivatives to form ancillary ligands. 4-Methyl-2-phenylpyridine has been shown to have the ability to bind to metal ions, specifically copper and iron ions. The systematic kinetic analysis of 4-methyl-2-phenylpyridine has led to the conclusion that the reaction proceeds through a mononuclear c-h bond. Electron reduction of 4-methyl-2-phenylpyridine results in a fluorescence emission at 528 nm.
