4-Methyl-2-(2'-nitrophenyl)azophenol is a nitrobenzene derivative that has an azobenzene skeleton. It is a reactive group with catalytic properties. 4-Methyl-2-(2'-nitrophenyl)azophenol has the skeletal, cycle, and n-oxide isomers, which have one nitro group on each phenyl ring. The nature of the compound is reactive and it can be made by reacting nitric acid with toluene in the presence of raney nickel. This product also reacts with benzotriazole to form 2-amino-5(chloroacetoxy)-1,3,4-thiadiazole (ACAT).
