- 6-(methylamino)pyrimidine-2,4(1H,3H)-dione
6-Methylaminouracil is a drug that is used to treat bacterial infections. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of staphylococcus by inhibiting the synthesis of nucleic acids and proteins, which are required for cell division. 6-Methylaminouracil also inhibits the UV irradiation of subtilis and causes a bathochromic shift in the absorption spectrum. The photodestruction of 6-methylaminouracil has been observed in experiments with viologen and catalytic effect.
