N-(4-Methoxybenzyl)aniline is a bifunctional amine that is used for the efficient synthesis of unsaturated ketones. The reaction mechanism begins with a protonation step, which leads to the formation of an iminium ion and a boronate ester. The iminium ion reacts with an electrophile (unsaturated ketone) to form an enamine, which is then hydrolyzed by water. This process can be repeated multiple times to create more complex molecules. N-(4-Methoxybenzyl)aniline has been shown to react efficiently in the presence of unsaturated ketones, such as 2-methylcyclohexanone and 3-penten-2-one. It also shows magnetic properties, making it suitable for use in magnetic nanoparticles.
