Description

Methyl 2,4-dihydroxy-3,6-dimethylbenzoate is a natural compound that inhibits the activity of two enzymes that are involved in inflammation. It inhibits the enzyme cyclooxygenase, which converts arachidonic acid to prostaglandin G2 and prostaglandin H2. Methyl 2,4-dihydroxy-3,6-dimethylbenzoate also inhibits the enzyme lipoxygenase, which catalyzes the conversion of linoleic acid to hydroperoxyeicosatetraenoic acid. Methyl 2,4-dihydroxy-3,6-dimethylbenzoate has been shown to be effective against prostate cancer cells and cervical cancer cells.
