4-Methyl-2-nitrophenol is a nitro compound that is used as a reagent in organic analytical chemistry. It reacts with hydrogen chloride to form the corresponding hydrochloride salt. The hydrochloride salt can be converted back to 4-methyl-2-nitrophenol by treatment with sodium hydroxide.
