(R)-Methyglycidate is a synthetic compound that has been shown to be effective in inhibiting the activity of cerebral, mediated, and acetonitrile-mediated lipases. The demethylation of (R)-methyglycidate is catalyzed by superacidic conditions present at pH 0.1. The alkylation with trifluoromethanesulfonic acid leads to inhibition of gelatinase and lipase activities. This compound has also been shown to have inhibitory effects on enzymes involved in cerebral inflammation, including glutamate decarboxylase, phospholipases A2, and cyclooxygenases. These inhibitory effects may be due to the inhibition of arachidonic acid release from phospholipids.
