2-acetyl-4Methylthiophene is an organic compound that belongs to the class of heterocycles and sulfoxides. It is a liquid at room temperature, but can be converted to a gas by boiling or through exposure to ultraviolet light. 2-acetyl-4Methylthiophene has been shown to have anticancer effects in bioassays on human colon carcinoma cells. This compound inhibits the growth of cancer cells by changing their metabolism from aerobic to anaerobic and increasing the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). 2-acetyl-4Methylthiophene has also been shown to inhibit DNA synthesis and protein synthesis in these cancer cells.
