Description

5-Methyl-3-heptanone is a naturally occurring organic compound that belongs to the group of bifunctional compounds. It reacts with copper oxide and activated carbon, which are used in water treatment plants to remove geosmin, an undesirable odorant. 5-Methyl-3-heptanone is also used as a pheromone in mice. This chemical has been shown to have health effects on model organisms, such as mice and rats, including neurotoxicity and carcinogenicity. 5-Methyl-3-heptanone also acts as a coelomic agent in biological systems, which can lead to dehydration.
