Description

Methyl 2,3-dibromopropionate is a nitro compound that consists of a hydroxy group and a nitro group. It has the structural formula CHBrNO. Methyl 2,3-dibromopropionate has been shown to inhibit cell growth in human melanoma cells by inhibiting protein synthesis and inducing apoptosis. The mechanism of action is not clear but may be due to its ability to bind to amines and acrylonitrile groups on proteins and inhibit their activity.
