- 2-Thiophenecarboxaldehyde, 4-Methyl-
- 4-Methylthiophene-2-Carboxaldehyde
- 4-Methylthiophene-2-carbaldehyde
4-Methylthiophene-2-carboxaldehyde is an organic compound that has been shown to be a ligand for the chromatographic interaction of benzene. It is also an intermediate in the synthesis of 4-methylthiophene-2-carboxylic acid and can be used as a substrate for functional theory studies. It has been observed to have antibacterial activity against staphylococcus, but not against other bacteria such as Escherichia coli. The isomers of this compound are also known as α and β methylthiophenes. The erythro isomer (β) has been shown to inhibit cancer cell growth, while the threo isomer (α) inhibits bacterial growth.
