• Description: 2-Mercapto-5-methoxybenzoic acid is a metabolite of the neurotransmitter serotonin. It has been shown to have affinity for anesthetized humans and positron emission in positron emission tomography (PET) studies. 2-Mercapto-5-methoxybenzoic acid is used as a research tool for kinetic assays, binding assays, and receptor binding experiments. Studies have also been conducted to determine the uptake of 2-mercapto-5-methoxybenzoic acid in the caudate and putamen regions of monkeys. The level of uptake was found to be similar in both regions.
