Description

4-(6-Methoxy-2-naphthyl)-2-(4-methylsulfinylphenyl)-5-(4-pyridyl)-1H-imidazole (NSC 707934) is a member of the class of imidazoles and is used to treat primary breast cancers. It has been shown to inhibit DNA polymerase activity in vitro, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the repair mechanism for DNA damage. NSC 707934 also inhibits angiogenesis by blocking production of VEGF and other angiogenic factors. It has also been shown to induce ventricular dysfunction and cell death in vitro, as well as choroidal neovascularization in vivo. NSC 707934 has been shown to be biocompatible with cells in tissue culture and hypoxic tumor models.
