N-4-Methoxyphenylretinamide (4-HPR) is a potent inhibitor of cytochrome P450 enzymes, including CYP3A4. 4-HPR inhibits the activity of fatty acid synthase and mitochondrial membrane depolarization. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of human carcinoma cell lines in vivo. 4-HPR also has anti-inflammatory properties, as it suppresses reactive oxygen species production in human neutrophils. This compound is not specific for any one type of cancer, but does have an effect on T cell lymphomas and women with fatty acid metabolism disorders.
