4-Methoxypyridine N-oxide hydrate is a synthetic molecule that has an intermolecular hydrogen bond. The molecule is stable in the presence of chloride and efficiently reacts with ethyl bromoacetate in the presence of trifluoroacetic acid to form 4-methoxypyridine N-oxide. The n-oxide is then converted to 4-methoxypyridine N-oxide hydrate by reaction with hydroxide ion in water. This compound has been shown to exhibit optical properties and molecular response, which can be modeled using thermodynamic calculations.
