• Description: Methyl 3-mercaptobenzoate is a specific transport agent that is used to transport salicylaldehyde from the leaves of plants to the coleoptera. The mechanism of this transport process has not been fully elucidated, but it is thought that the 3-mercapto group may form a covalent bond with the chrysomelidae which then allows for transport. This mechanism has not been confirmed, but it is thought that in some cases, methyl 3-mercaptobenzoate may also be able to transport iridoid glucosides. Methyl 3-mercaptobenzoate is most effective when used in conjunction with other agents like chrysomelidae and salicylaldehyde.
