N-Methyl-1,2,4-triazolinedione is a synthetic compound that is used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals. FTIR spectroscopy can be used to identify the presence of this chemical in a sample. The reaction between N-methyl-1,2,4-triazolinedione and trifluoroacetic acid has been studied using kinetic techniques to determine its rate of reaction. This product may be an isomer of methyl glyoxylate or methyl malonate. N-Methyl-1,2,4-triazolinedione has been shown to react with fatty acids in an electrochemical study. This reaction produces fatty acid esters and carboxylic acids as products. Photolysis of N-methyl-1,2,4-triazolinedione produces acetonitrile and fatty acid photolysis products.
