It inhibits the synthesis of bacterial DNA by binding to the gyrase enzyme, which is involved in the process of replication and transcription. 2-Methyl-5-pyrimidinol has been shown to be active against a wide range of gram-negative pathogens and resistant to beta lactam antibiotics.
