Description

S-Methyl-N,N-diethylthiocarbamate sulfoxide (SMTCS) is a pharmacological agent that inhibits the activity of receptor enzymes. It binds to the active site of the enzyme and irreversibly inactivates it by forming a covalent bond with a cysteine residue. SMTCS has been shown to inhibit rat liver microsomes and human neutrophils by binding to the disulfide bonds of their proteins. It also has potential as a drug target for its ability to inhibit glutamate release from nerve cells, which may be due to its reactive properties. The analytical method used for SMTCS detection is LC-MS/MS, and this compound's reactive properties make it necessary for sample preparation before analysis.
