Description

4-(N-Methyl-N-nitrosamino)-4-(3-pyridyl)butanal is a nitrosamine that has been found to be carcinogenic in long-term studies. It has been shown to induce tumorigenesis in vitro, and it has been detected in the saliva of smokers. 4-(N-Methyl-N-nitrosamino)-4-(3-pyridyl)butanal has also been shown to have genotoxic potential by highlighting oxidative DNA damage and mutagenicity. This compound is an aldehyde that can react with aminopyrine to form an N,O-acetal adduct, which can then bind covalently with DNA. The genotoxicity of this compound may be due to its ability to form reactive oxygen species by reacting with nitrous oxide (NO).
