Mizolastine is a drug that belongs to the class of antihistamines and has been shown to be effective in the treatment of allergic symptoms. Mizolastine is a selective antagonist of H1 receptors, which are located on the surface of cells. It inhibits histamine release from mast cells and thereby relieves allergy symptoms such as sneezing, itching, watery eyes, and runny nose. Mizolastine has a low oral bioavailability because it is rapidly metabolized by the liver. The drug can also cause serious side effects such as skin cancer and bowel disease when used long-term. This drug should not be taken with other drugs that inhibit 2-adrenergic receptors because this may lead to increased cardiovascular adverse events.
