• Description: 2-Mercaptopyrazine is a quinoline derivative that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects. It inhibits the production of inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6 and TNF-α and also reduces the activity of neutrophils. 2-Mercaptopyrazine has been tested in rats with induced colitis and in mice with experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis, both of which are models for inflammatory bowel disease. This drug also showed potential to be an anticancer agent, inhibiting cell proliferation, inducing apoptosis and increasing oxidative stress in cancer cells. In addition, 2-mercaptopyridine may also inhibit biofilms by preventing bacterial attachment to surfaces.; 2-Mercaptopyrazine inhibits camp levels by reducing the release of acetylcholine from cholinergic neurons in cultures of rat brain synapses.
