Description :
Methyl 2-cyano-2-methylpropanoate is a form of formic acid that is produced by the hydration of methyl formate. It is used as an inexpensive alternative to the more expensive dimethylformamide, which is also produced from methanol. Methyl 2-cyano-2-methylpropanoate can be synthesized using thionyl chloride and metal salts in a high yield process. This compound can also be dehydrated by reacting it with amines in an alkaline environment to produce an amide.
