It is a diazonium salt with a bidentate ligand and a carbonyl group, which allows it to form an intermolecular hydrogen bond. The phenyl group of 4-methoxycarbonylphenylboronic acid can be oxidized to the corresponding carboxylic acid or reduced to the corresponding alcohol.4-Methoxycarbonylphenylboronic acid is also soluble in halides, iodinations, and mercaptoacetic acid. This compound has been used as an acceptor in the oxidation of aluminium with diborane as a catalyst. 4-Methoxycarbonylphenylboronic acid has also been used to synthesize other compounds such as metronidazole (a drug) and erythromycin (an antibiotic).
