4'-Methoxybiphenyl-4-carboxylic acid is a chiral, α-amino acid. The molecule has a dipole moment and at room temperature it exists as an enantiomeric pair of mesomorphic molecules. This compound is used in the synthesis of polymers with enhanced optical properties for solar cells. 4'-Methoxybiphenyl-4-carboxylic acid is also used to produce new organic compounds with electron acceptor properties for use in chemistry and molecular structure studies.
